As a city worker began filling a Sanitary Department truck with gasoline, the fuel ignited. The fire is quickly extinguished. Meanwhile, the military continues dynamiting homes along North Avenue toward Peachtree.

2,000 men from Fort McPherson arrive to assist firefighters and begin a bucket brigade using buckets from the King Hardware Company. They are also asked to direct traffic and manage the growing crowds.

Homes on Pine Street and North Jackson Street are dynamited to slow the spread of the fire.

To create a firewall to contain the fire, city officials, firefighters, and military officers decide to use explosives to destroy homes along Pine, Boulevard, and Ponce de Leon. Under the charge of the DuPont Powder Company, homes on the corner of Hunt and Pine Streets are dynamited but do not stop the fire.

The Griffin Fire Department arrives on the Central of Georgia Railroad with 1,000 feet of hose.

Grace Methodist Church begins burning at the corner of North Boulevard and Highland Avenue. At the same time, two brick apartment buildings catch fire on East Avenue, as well as the Jackson Hill Baptist Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church.
